Bom dia!

I’m Bart, a Dutch photographer living in São Brás de Alportel (Algarve), where I photograph luxury retreats, boutique B&B’s, adventurous brands and my biggest muse…my Bali-dog Bakso.

My adventurous soul and a passion for travel lead me to pursue a Master of Science degree in sustainable tourism and a long career in tourism management. This enabled me to work around the globe in places such as Morocco, Tanzania and Indonesia. During these years I have always been documenting this journey with my trusted Pentax cameras. My love for the beach, rugged landscapes and beautiful light eventually made me settle in beautiful Portugal, where I live in the quiet countryside village of São Brás de Alportelof the Algarve with my wife Agnes and our dog Bakso.

About a decade ago I got a last-minute request to document a friends wedding in Italy. Not really knowing what I was doing yet, I somehow made it work and made my friends very happy with the final result. I soon realised what I loved about tourism: creating an amazing tourism experience and product for my guests. Which is not much different to the experience people have when I capture an important moment for them with my camera. It is all about creating a quality product, story telling and understanding that a great image is part of that story. The energy that this gave me, kickstarted a continuous stream of photo assignments ranging from weddings, events, sport, outdoor, interiors, sustainable tourism and foremost boutique hospitality photography.

Combining the increasing amount of photography assignments with my tourism career became increasingly challenging. I realised that the art of photography enabled me to work more directly on creative storytelling and therefor I decided to follow my heart and switch careers. Though I have to be honest; choosing Photography as a career was not an easy one. As it meant leaving behind a steady income and a career I build on for more than two decades. But the opportunity to be part of your life for a moment in time, to document your story and create lasting memories makes it all worth it!
